Connor Harrington - New "Grab Your Guise" Print, by Momo on Aug 25, 2016 20:11:13 GMT 1, Am glad it's not just me; I do realise (and have been told) that I am becoming a grumpy so-and-so. An exhibition trip sounds like a splendid idea. Feral, 11, Steph, dibbs etc are usually game for that too. Can we leave it a month though? I have stuff "goin' down". Me too...get married on the 18th Sep
Congrats nd besta luck..

Explain VNA Special value, by Momo on Aug 17, 2016 20:46:14 GMT 1, Cheers geoffw and @kember .. appreciate your feedback.. I have the Harrington one framed out at the moment and on my wall http://instagram.com/p/oyZw-2Bve2 and love it. And as smishdown no longer framing I am bringing my other favoritesin my collection - Invader,Eine,Faile,Retna and D*Face to be framed similarly as soon as can afford it... Just as a note I usually buy a reg version of the mag anyway in store and read that one and try buy the LE seperately for the art and not to read..

Explain VNA Special value, by Momo on Aug 17, 2016 9:28:34 GMT 1, Can someone explain to me how the ltd VNAs have such low value even though low runs - signed - numbered and screen printed.. For example Harrington has what like 10 prints?! But only 4 were screen prints, including the VNA but value doesn't reflect that fact.. Eine VNA looks smashing and fits with his style yet value doesn't reflect it... Invader has one with an actual Invader on it yet again value is miles away from its comparatives..
So is it because it's on a magazine? If so what about all the prints done on cardboard and other bits and bobs?
Can anyone enlighten me so??
By the way not looking to sell any but do have a vested interest as I have like 6 of these (6 keepers in my eyes)

Irish Urban/Street and Contemporary art, by Momo on Jul 28, 2016 11:13:54 GMT 1, Francis Bacon
Pretty sure most of you know him but still haha..
Born in Ireland in 1909, Francis Bacon spent most of his working life in London, and he died in 1992. Bacon is best known for portraiture, using a somewhat abstracted style to create works that were often disturbing and always striking. In a series that continued from the late 1940s until the mid 1960s, Bacon created painting after painting exploring a papal theme, with many of the pieces being reworkings of Diego Vรฉlasquez' Portrait of Pope Innocent X. While it is unclear what the motivation for the series was (even Bacon himself later said that the work was 'silly' and he didn't know why he made it), what is clear is that the artist could employ minimal means to great, grotesque effect.
Studies after Vรฉlasquez Portrait of Pope Innocent X, 1940sโ1960s

Irish Urban/Street and Contemporary art, by Momo on Jul 28, 2016 11:11:14 GMT 1, Mainie Jellett
Having studied in Paris under Albert Gleizes, Mainie Jellett is responsible for introducing Cubism to Ireland, albeit without immediate success โ a conservative art audience took time to convince, and even artist Jack B Yeats is reputed to have said of her teacher, 'Who the blazes is Gleizes?' Nevertheless, she persevered, and not only created a solid body of work, but greatly contributed to the development of modern, abstract and conceptual art in Ireland. Mainie Jellett was born in 1897 and died in 1944.
Abstract Composition, c1929

Maser and the 'Repeal the 8th', by Momo on Jul 28, 2016 11:04:50 GMT 1, I didn't really know how to present this piece or the debate around the piece but thought it should be raised for those of you who don't know about it...
Those of you who have interacted with me on IG and here are prob aware that I lend a hand with MASER on installation projects and as such I have been and am weary of linking or promoting his work as I feel it may be tainted by me insignificant connection.
Recently he painted the attached piece: Its in the heart of Temple Bar - in Dublin City Centre. It is on the side of an art Gallery. Repeal the 8th refers to the 8th amendment of the Irish constitution. The short of it is that the 8th amendment is our abortion laws something that both Amnesty International and the UN claim is barbaric. Irish women are forced to carry stillborn children to delivery day, women who have been raped and or are victims of abuse are also forced to carry children and these are just some of the problems with the current blanketing language of the 8th. As such there has been a movement led by the young women of ireland to repeal the 8th amendment and to at the very least form an intelligent and open discussion on the subject.
As part of his support for the issue and the need for discussion Maser created the Repeal the 8th piece pictured above. It is in his traditional MASER LOVES YOU STYLE which he has plastered around Dublin for the last 15 years. It is a dialogue he has with the city where he tries to push positive messages of self love and and openness to discussing mental health issues in contrast to the consumerist images which give a subconscious sense of low self esteem and needing to feel worthy.
This piece has been forcibly painted over by Dublin City council in the last few days meaning the piece only lasted a week. However this piece has in its implementation and its forced removal achieved its goal in forming a more interactive and public debate.

Scotland to Leave UK and Remain EU, by Momo on Jun 24, 2016 22:40:58 GMT 1, Its trickier than all this guys... firstly France and Spain have a block on all smaller sub-nations gaining independent access to the EU as that would only encourage the basque and catalan districts/states which in their eyes cant be condoned.. so scotland Wales and Northern Ireland fucked for that.. but with all the misinformation that flew about for this referendum they will of course try it again when goung for independence.. as an Irishman our view is 50-50 being the only land border with UK with border checks reminiscent of the troubles and all and the quandry of what happens as there was all island cross border agreements which dont hold if north not in EU.. then the fact that we are UKs closest trading partners and no EU state can independently negotiate a trade deal destroys that.. not to mention Visas snd all the other shit that comes with travel and business and study.. in Dublin there are already huge Multinationals waiting to move their European HQs from London for tax reasons and eu access too which is going to cause the next property bubble here like a mini London... In total we are all fucked.. wait 3yrs let the belligerent baby boomers die and vote again.
