Your latest Art Purchase?, by disappointed on Mar 22, 2017 0:34:51 GMT 1, - Pejac Absolutely thrilled with this.ย
Maybe a full frontal pic might help as, from this angle at least, I can't see what the pull is here?

BAST Artwork, VALUATION, by disappointed on Mar 17, 2017 16:25:44 GMT 1, This Popeye search reminds me that I have the low edition (maybe eight?) black background release of this somewhere. I recall it being very ugly (when compared to the regular edition) which, for me, is very much a positive for a BAST. No idea where it is now though or I'd have a proper look at it..
Incidentally, this hand finished Popeye seems a bargain at ยฃ600 or so. He was making great work back then, much more so than the direction he has been following for the last five or six years which I've found to be quite awful. Rae used to seem a poor man's BAST but I'd say recent BAST is now a rich man's Rae. Sad times..

Chloe Early ๐ฎ๐ช New Paintings โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by disappointed on Mar 10, 2017 12:12:16 GMT 1, Amazing Chloe Early! Love the colors. GLWTS
Yeah, it's pretty vibrant and there are areas of bare aluminum that catch the light nicely too.
I'll miss it should it sell but I'm trying to rationalise and maybe diversify my collection a little. I am fortunate to own a larger, older, work by Chloe so will still be able to enjoy her style..

Chloe Early ๐ฎ๐ช New Paintings โข Show News โข Art For Sale, by disappointed on Mar 9, 2017 12:44:06 GMT 1, Having a spring clean out of work that I would like to hang but simply do not have the wallspace for now ro anytime soon.
First up is a very fine, and pleasingly chaotic, work by Chloe Early titled 'Astronaut'. This is a mixed media piece executed on her favoured aluminium and measures 75cms x 50cms (the aluminium is a sturdy 3mm). The work is signed, titled, and dated, on the reverse and is ready to hang. I purchased the piece from a show at Stolenspace and am the only owner.
Offers around ยฃ3,500 (plus postage at cost)?
I also have an early collage piece by Ludo. This is a black and white image of his gunflower piece that has been applied to a dark background on a nice thick piece of corrugated cardboard measuring 22cms x 18.5cms. The piece is titled 'Nature's Revenge "The Gunflower"' and is signed and dated in white ink on the front.
I rediscovered this a week or two ago after it had lain long lost tucked away on a shelf but just cannot recall where I obtained this piece from but I imagine it would have been direct from Ludo or one of his very first dealers as this was early days for him. It wasn't a secondary market is the only thing I can be sure of...
I have no idea of the value so offers?
Thanks for looking...

Banksy Love Rat for sale unsigned, by disappointed on Jan 16, 2017 16:21:09 GMT 1, Nobody claimed to be experts. And nobody is bullying down prices. People don't like to think someone is coming in and trying to mislead others into paying way over the odds. It can be taken badly, especially if the member is new to the forum. Also, you've started your 'expert' post with the word 'Absolutely' in response to someone who wrote: "I'd put this at 9.5 -10. But I don't agree with commenting on prices within a for sale thread unless the original poster puts up a questionable statement." No-one is being mislead here, at least not by the seller who has settled on a price based on one he has seen suggested elsewhere and even offers the proviso that it may not have been a realised price. It's hard to be much fairer than that and, as said, it will sell only if the price is deemed fair by two parties.
Some of the attitude in this thread could very well be read as bullying down, or talking down if you prefer, the seller's offer price which, at best, is impolite behaviour on a sales thread but, given that the seller has been referred to as being stupid on three or four occasions as well as being laughed at for daring to offer a price that others disagree with, I'd say it steps beyond reasonable behaviour.
As for experts, if someone is offering me advice on selling something at these kinds of prices then I'd very much hope that they do have expert knowledge of said market.
Finally, it doesn't require a huge leap of inference to read my comment on vikingsurfers thread as my supporting his position regarding interference in sales threads as that is all I touched upon in my own post. I'll edit quoted posts in future to make my position more clear for the literal minded.

Banksy Love Rat for sale unsigned, by disappointed on Jan 16, 2017 13:50:25 GMT 1, I'd put this at 9.5 -10. But I don't agree with commenting on prices within a for sale thread unless the original poster puts up a questionable statement. It doesn't help anyone and if the seller wants 12.5, he wants 12.5. To state the obvious, somethings worth what another is willing to pay. The rats have taken a big jump of late, but for the same money (or less) I'd take an u/s RC, Barcode or LN.
Absolutely.
The seller has offered a price so if someone is interested but considers it too high then let them contact the seller and negotiate a price that satisfies both parties.
The stream of 'experts' that jump on to sales threads to bully down prices are no better than those they accuse of the opposite. If this offered price is too high then the print won't sell but most of the comments here help no-one.

Miaz Brothers ๐ฎ๐น Portrait Painters โข Roberto & Renato Miaz, by disappointed on Jan 16, 2017 13:37:11 GMT 1, Their most interesting series of works.
I have the same wallspace issue as yourself so mine, sadly, remains rolled. Ideally I would like a home with a very long corridor and the painting hanging at the end but that's not happening any time soon.

I have one of these large anti matter works and find them to be much more rewarding, and quite a bit more disturbing too, than their old masters work.

Banksys For Sale, by disappointed on Dec 8, 2016 14:36:03 GMT 1, I guess if mfm framed, they are fully reversible museum cotton tape or similar. Nowadays I'd use/request Japanese paper and wheat starch only as it's that little bit easier with q tips
You would hope conservation standard means conservation standard wouldn't you?
It is always worth checking though as I've heard a few stories of some framers not actually carrying out work to the standard requested. Since then I consider it to be very important to ensure that framing requests are specified in writing and that the framer issues a statement of materials/standards used. Just to avoid confusion, but also for accountability.
As an aside I would add that, unless there is damage to the front of the paper, I would consider any minor marks or blemishes to the rear of a print/paper artwork to be an irrelevance. I'm not really a fan of the toy/sneaker collector brand new in box mentality that many bring to collecting prints.
Apologies to the OP for derailing the thread.

Banksys For Sale, by disappointed on Dec 8, 2016 10:28:26 GMT 1, Banksy private sellers just need to be concerned about capital gains tax these days ! No cgt if not bought with the intention to make a profit. If they were bought to enjoy as art they are a personal asset. Depending on volume and other badges of trade HMRC may view as trading and expect income tax and ni. Sorry to mess up your thread with dull stuff op.
I would offer caution to anyone accepting tax advice unless it is offered by a qualified professional.
That said, I would wish you luck in suggesting to HMRC that you bought an artwork simply to enjoy it and, as such, should not be liable for the CGT that is due when selling a personal possession, including art, in excess of ยฃ6,000 (unless said art was a gift of course).
The vast majority of personal assets are liable to CGT.

Conor Harrington Morning Glory Original, by disappointed on Dec 6, 2016 19:50:37 GMT 1, While I think it is a very nice piece and plays a part historically in the artists progression it's not as strong as his newer works. I am not saying it's not worth what members are suggesting. I think it's hard to value this. Obviously it will come down to what someone is willing to pay. I would love to know what it ultimately sells for. GLWS! It may be inappropriate to compare the Morning Glory series with fully worked recent canvasses as these were part of Conor's daily warm up routine.
I would say that Conor is one of those artist's who has been reasonably consistent in his message since day one and I see the same DNA in pieces I own from him that are ten years old through running through his work right up to his most recent show at PACE. It is not like he chops and changes message/theme/concept from year to year, as many artists seem to do, and I think that consistency of message is what has always drawn me to his work and to a few other artists that I have heavily favoured in my collection over the years.

Conor Harrington Morning Glory Original, by disappointed on Dec 6, 2016 19:41:54 GMT 1, Yep I agree with this - I think you've undervalued this! worth at least over ยฃ8.5 surely?... Being an inveterate cynic I tend to be wary of exceptional auction prices as that is a scene that is frequently manipulated. So, I am plenty happy to sell this for whatever people here are comfortable with and will of course be happy to offer proof of the final under bidding offer (without ID/name of course) to the highest bidder...
But, that said, I'd not refuse an offer of ยฃ8.5k!

Sweettoof original for sale at cost , by disappointed on Dec 5, 2016 11:14:07 GMT 1, All the frenzy and items getting snapped up as soon as they came up on Sweettoofs website and this is still available. Its a mystery where have all the buyers have gone! GL with the sale Zippy I suspect you have answered your own question there. Sweet roof pretty much flooded his market with work after it having beeen relatively scarce for years, especially at the more affordable, more manageable, end of the spectrum so it may well be that most who wanted something managed to find a piece direct from the artist..
Sorry to interject, best of luck with the sale OP..

Conor Harrington Morning Glory Original, by disappointed on Dec 4, 2016 20:01:51 GMT 1, Ha, yeah. I'm with you on that.. Been a long time since I displayed, or wanted to display, any banksy artwork in my house but this has been on the wall since it's purchase. It's only because I have a number of original artworks by Conor, and am attempting to slim down/rationalise my art, that I am willing to let this one go.. You should trade it for other decent artists;) let me know if I can help:) SaveSave I have way too much decent art leaning up against walls already so no trades, sorry!

Conor Harrington Morning Glory Original, by disappointed on Dec 4, 2016 15:10:55 GMT 1, Selling a few pieces from my collection of Conor Harrington works.
This mixed media on board is titled Wednesday Morning Glory, October 6th, 2011 and was executed in, unsurprisingly, 2011. The work is 40cms x 30cms unframed, 45.5cms x 35.5cms framed, and will be sold as it was bought, with the board floated in a non glazed, white, wooden frame.
I am the original, and only, owner having acquired the piece at Conor's 'Dead Meat' exhibition, held at Lazarides Rathbone Place gallery in March, 2012.
I am based in the UK and would prefer to sell within the UK if possible but, of course, can arrange to ship internationally, using an art courier, at buyer's cost.
I really have no idea as to the value as these do not come to market all that often so how would offers in excess of ยฃ5,000 sound?
Finally, I am sure I can find a few people here who can vouch for my integrity if required..

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by disappointed on Nov 22, 2016 14:56:31 GMT 1, That is quite an extrapolation from my response to your original statement. I said being 'home friendly' and 'easy to hang' are so far down the list of what makes art interesting that they are not something I would ever consider. Home/wall friendly, as commonly used, is little more than a euphemism for non-challenging, decorative, and bland and I'd rather have a blank wall than something that met those conditions. We agree, but i think that most people prefer art when it is non-challenging and decorative. Whatson art is easy, no over thinking, no hidden message, no mad painting skills but appealing to the eye, cheerful, matching with any room with any furniture, etc... I would call it "art for everyone" and to me, it is like blockbusters and arthouse cinema, i mainly watch auteur cinema but sometimes a blockbuster feel good. Whatson is my blockbuster. I'm not entirely sure that we are in agreement but, yeah, I accept that many prefer art that is non-challenging and decorative just as they accept the same in any other creative medium. However, all of those attributes you apply to Whatson are, for me, negative qualities...
That is quite an extrapolation from my response to your original statement. "Home/wall friendly, as commonly used, is little more than a euphemism for non-challenging, decorative, and bland and I'd rather have a blank wall than something that met those conditions" Not starting an argument here but I am confused as to your point. Do you really think or believe this? Do you not own or appreciate art unless it is difficult to look at or contrasts with its surroundings? Some of the most respected artists represented on this board put out or have put out plenty of "wall friendly" art. I say this as I am staring at Dazzle and Nola which happen to look great with my decor ;-) I wouldn't worry about starting an argument but I am always up for discussion as it seems lacking on this forum so here goes...
Who said art had to be difficult to look at or contrast with it's surroundings? I said that I consider being 'wall friendly' an insignificant justification for buying/hanging an artwork and, yes, if that was all that could be found to recommend a piece then I'd sooner look at the wall. Same for buying art to match your surroundings, a notion which is way too Habitat/IKEA for me. I'm not looking to decorate my walls in a manner that might satisfy an interior, or set, designer but rather with artwork that has the ability to engage me, and others, on a daily basis. Being provocative does not necessarily mean being difficult.
Other than maybe one or two pieces I don't own too much art that I would consider genuinely difficult/threatening to look at but I do have plenty of art that I can look at every single day, seeing some new aspect each and every time, and which has enough interest to be experienced and enjoyed every day of the week - this is the sort of challenge I refer to. That engagement may be the subject, the technique, the artist's motivation and/or history, whatever, but there needs to be a hook and that hook is never that it is 'wall friendly'. That is a description that, for me, remains a derogatory term - I can walk past such art as easily as I can tune out 'radio friendly' music and that is not really a positive. I am more offended by the reams of artwork that appear to be designed by committee in order to maximise sales than by any artwork which might have some genuine justification to be described as offensive.
Sorry, I have no idea what Dazzle is but do not consider NOLA a great piece of indoor work, whether it satisfies your interior decor matchmaking or not, so those are probably not the greatest examples.

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by disappointed on Nov 14, 2016 15:40:56 GMT 1, I read that a lot, not just about Whatson of course, and still cannot think of a less valid reason for the purchase of an artwork. Do you mean that you purchase art without thinking how you will display it and how it will looks on your wall ? It makes perfect sense to me that people are more attracted to wall friendly art. That is quite an extrapolation from my response to your original statement.

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by disappointed on Nov 14, 2016 15:09:32 GMT 1, Whatson's style is a stereotype of "urban art" but it is very effective : his pieces are home friendly and can be hang easily, especially on the Chevrier collab which is well executed.
