Isis, by spirit on Oct 8, 2014 1:00:31 GMT 1, Is ISIS a real threat to us ? Its hard to say, it harder to work through the bluster in the media. It takea a bit of work to discover who they are and how they relate to the Syria situation
If you've got the stomach for it watch Clashing of the swords IV (the only one with an English translation I think) and Flames of War. Will tell you a lot about who they are and what they want.

There are basically 2 potential solutions with situations like this: Fight or Talk.
(If you have any other potential solutions I'm all ears)
The problem in this particular situation with the talking option is that any negotiator you send will probably be returned to you in two pieces.
ISIS kills all infidels. Full stop. And they have a VERY broad definition of infidel which as well as everyone in the west, also includes a lot of other muslims. The kurds they are fighting now are, like them, mostly Sunni muslims. But they are secular. Therefore apostate. Therefore in need of their heads being separated from their bodies.
The talking solution requires there to be the possibility of finding some common ground. Give and take. A solution that both sides can find mutually acceptable. I honestly don't think there is one that involves infidels still breathing. This is because Islamic extremists cannot deviate in any way whatsoever from their interpretation of the Qur'an. It is the absolute word of God. Either you see things 100% their way, or they kill you. End of.

Isis, by jonb on Oct 8, 2014 1:41:07 GMT 1, Because our governments have talked to nobody, is why the situation has go so far, but ISIS is just one of many groups. It is of little use talking to the western puppets we have set up we have to start talking to the groups they are suppressing.
And that means sitting around a table with some very nasty people, and our governments will have to admit they have not got clean hands. The trouble is I don't think our politicians are big enough to do that.
Though I would love to be proved wrong.

Isis, by iamzero on Oct 8, 2014 7:25:30 GMT 1, Dear Scooby, perhaps you might want to think about refraining from mentioning me in this thread as I am still reading it waiting for you to come up with some idea of a solution other than one of giving these animals a hug. Trying not to post as I find I do get angry at the fact some bullied Homegrown bed wetter can put on a mask and brutally hack off the head of a man that wanted to help Muslim people. I have hatred for This fanatical group, not because they are Muslim but because because they are murderous wankers. You tried to voice your opposition at the Israeli occupation for some reason that has nothing to do with this thread, well how do you see the invasion of the towns that these terrorists occupy? Were they invited through the town gates to murder people?
Please leave me out of it or PM me your details so we can have a real discussion as I am more than happy to meet with you as I don't feel I can fully articulate how annoyed I am at you trolling me back into this argument.
For what it's worth disagreed with everything after the British boots went into Kuwait. I offer no solution as I'm possibly not educated enough. But I grew up in a place where if someone does you wrong then you stamp it out, usually by standing toe to toe. Educated people can argue a point with dialogue, where I'm from, a swift smack in the eye works better as you can't enter into sensible conversation with an idiot... Or fanatics for that matter.
I repeat, please leave me out of this Scooby or we are gonna have a problem. I don't want to block your posts as I'm genuinely interested in all arguments, even yours and how people see what the solutions should be.

Isis, by Deleted on Oct 8, 2014 8:41:55 GMT 1, Fascinating thread with some interesting thoughts and opinions. I'm not really sure what ISIS is other than another incarnation of the Taliban etc. I think all the Western converts and those that "join" the movement can eventually be rationalized with. They join out of anger and despair. There was a time when I'd have liked to have seen Bush's head on a stick. Not so much so these days. So there's hope. For the minority leading and directing the movement, I'd suggest we stop arming them, the Saudi's stop funding them, and secular Muslim countries try and contain them within the regions they already occupy, with the help of international forces, I'd then call for diplomatic dialogue. Though that doesn't seem to work with Israel so why I think it would work with ISIS I'm not sure. I guess there isn't really an alternative.
The worst thing that could possibly happen, is that the media and those that control it, use it to attack the freedoms we've established in our own societies by instigating wave after wave of new laws to protect us from the mostly imaginary fears they plan to instill in everyone over the coming years. A much larger and more lucrative game is to be played out on the back of this. They, the Corpocracy, have their eyes on a different prize.
Peace

I'm a muslim whose family is from the Middle East area, so I see/hear more first hand the impact these "interests" have. Do you think secular Muslims dont care or are no longer angry about the way the West toppled Egypt and sent that country in to the s**t hole it is now? Or the atrocities Israel has and still commits on Palestinians daily? Till these issues are dealt with and resolved - there will never be peace in that region, more young Muslims will become disenfranchised & radicalised - its easy for them to be, look how readily available it is online to see graphic images of death & war. When you see a muslim babies head blown off, or a mothers charred corpse with her baby still in her arms, tell me how does that make you feel? Now imagine what its like for a young angry muslim who sees this s**t every day around him/her.
Im not condoning ISIS, but ISIS wont be toppled, other factions will/are joining them as they see strength in numbers. I fear the chickens have come home to roost.
I just hope Israel, doesnt enters the fray - then it will be a s**t storm.

Isis, by balibob on Oct 8, 2014 10:24:36 GMT 1, Scoobie, I'm sure your sentiments will endear to too a few of the members on here and piss off an equal number who take the opposite view. I'm pretty much in Iamzero's camp on this, in that I don't think I am clever enough to see a solution, unfortunately I can't see anyone else around who is at the moment either.
I generally try to see, and try to understand all points of view in most discussions, but sometimes you have to make an exception. When I heard the news that that Alan Henning had been beheaded, I got incredibly angry, and was convinced that it would 'kick off' over here between the radicals on both sides. The following morning I listened to one of the Imam's from his home town who had campaigned for Alan's release, being interviewed by one of the news channels. Like decent people everywhere, he was outraged at what had happened and distanced himself, Arabs and his religion from the murderers who are carrying out these atrocities.
What he said, and what I agree with, is that this not about religion. It is about a large group of people who round up anyone who doesn't conform exactly to their way of thinking and murders them, wholesale, without compassion and without mercy, regardless of race, sex, age or religion.
They won't listen, negotiate or compromise, but they will eventually run out of bullets. The only problem is, how many more people are we, in the first world , and I grimace as I type that, prepared to see murdered until that happens.
If anyone at this point, comments on my little rant and tries to bring in what the British, Americans, Israel, Palestinians, French, Crusaders, Mongols, Romans etc have done in the past or present, I think I will throw up all over my keyboard.

Now, admittedly, I'm currently reading Hitchens' book God is not Great which though quite erudite at points, is an incredible read so it's probably influencing my thinking. But this silly notion of religion, and god, and prophets is causing unbelievable harm. It made sense 2000 years ago when the limit of human intelligence was capped at quite a low level (some would argue in 2000 years we'll look back at now with the same idea) but with the advances of science it's mind blowing that people still cling to this outdated sorcery that exists to subjugate the masses.
Maybe, in this case, ISIS just uses religion as an excuse and not their driving force, that i don't know. But i think the entire region would be a lot better off without the hocus pocus of god.

Isis, by iamzero on Oct 8, 2014 11:14:57 GMT 1, Babibob and eshciff have nailed it with those last two posts. It frustrates me to see people play the race and religion card as an excuse to behave like an arsehole. My missus is a manager at a restaurant and has the race card played at her for complaints several times a week. Last week an Asian lady was charged £2.99 for a extra salad bowl because 4 people were using the one she had originally ordered. She kicked off in store and then wrote a letter to head office to say she had been discriminated against because she was Asian? Simply untrue... But prove it.
I mention this story because complete dicks can play the race card in the same way the terrorists claim this is a holy war against Islam... No it's not and I was happy at the fact imams and muslim groups finally spoke out about their anger at the latest hostage murder. Isis had the chance to show compassion and show the world they were fighting a cause against governments and oppression if only they had released the British aid worker. But instead they brutally butchered him. It's one thing to kill soldiers of war in this way but to kill Alan Henning shows they will stop at nothing and will not negotiate in my eyes. Perhaps they are hoping that people turn against descent Muslim folk as retaliation and then gain some sympathy? I hope that that doesn't happen or we're all fucked.

Isis, by Deleted on Oct 8, 2014 11:15:12 GMT 1, Loved this from Michael Moore
"Our health insurance companies have killed more Americans than ISIS will EVER dream of killing. When I made "Sicko" I asked people to send me their health care horror stories, the stories about friends and family who died because they couldn't afford the help they needed. I received over 25,000 emails and it took my staff and I over a month to read every single one of them. By the end, we were simply crushed with sadness. It was like we were a witness to a mass murder, and the serial killers were the insurance companies, the corporate chain hospitals, the pharmaceutical companies and the health care lobby.
Always remember -- those in power are in a continual game of keeping us distracted with scary "terrorists" so that we never focus on the REAL terrorists who wear suits and wave the flag."
