Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by seanburke on Dec 1, 2016 13:24:59 GMT 1, I think many of us suspect that galleries/print manufacturers engage in hype tactics, but it's a different matter when a gallery/retailer flatly says one thing and then is apparently caught lying. This.
Check out the GP comments - "Martin & Ourselves have decided to put all online"
If they didn't call this out, then no-one would be that pissed imo. It probably wouldn't have been noticed.

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by Dr Plip on Dec 1, 2016 13:41:58 GMT 1, So actually the galleries/artists themselves are part of the flipper industry they condemn so much? Always thought so. Hahaโฆ I remember GP with the Kunstrasen Spot Remover release was announcing proudly to block the orders from people selling on eBayโฆhaha what a farce/joke. Just be honestโฆGP in this case is losing it's credibility more and more. Luckily i missed out on this Whatson print and saved some funds, there are these days so many other lovely prints available Are you suggesting that GPs high horse was so high because it was standing atop a huge stack of prints they were holding back?

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by Deleted on Dec 1, 2016 13:47:41 GMT 1, We all know pre-sales happen, and prints are help back for shows, fairs, charitable donations etc - thats just the way it works Still I wouldn't expect a gallery to hold them back to just sell to the highest bidder on ebay which seems to be happening at this very moment. Added to that there is some very questionable bidding going on. That's been going on for decades.
Galleries and dealers have bid up prices at major auction houses for decades to create a record price and garner publicity and rich investors in an artists work.

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by Hairbland on Dec 1, 2016 15:00:36 GMT 1, I called GP out as being full of s**te years ago. Took some heat. But everything they've done since backs me up. Are they selling those crap little people in jars again this Xmas that they tried to push through last holiday? Or are they too busy, looking for odd new materials to print on for limited editions of artists soon to be forgotten?

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by nobokov on Dec 1, 2016 15:31:11 GMT 1, I don't see the problem. Perhaps we can think of the release as one release of 75 prints, since the two editions were basically the same thing. If we think that way, then it would not be surprising to see a popular artist sell out quickly in a global marketplace.
GP has been good to this forum, so let's not throw him under the bus just cause we missed out on one release. Plenty of great art releases on a monthly basis to tempt our addictions. Let's move on please....

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by randomname on Dec 2, 2016 16:52:37 GMT 1, I lost interest in GP after the whole Outis fiasco. Didn't seem like an honest guy to deal with after that. Even so, I don't think his soiled reputation will make much of a difference. Your drug dealer might be a dick, but you're going to keep calling him every time you get an itch. Metaphorically speaking, of course.

GP has been great to this forum, and both MW and GP are super nice gents! I literally laughed out loud when I read the comment about Martin spending his money on coke and women. People have no clue.

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by smokinfish on Dec 2, 2016 20:02:08 GMT 1, With all of this demand Whatson should do a true print of these two pieces. Just a straight up print, maybe in an edition of 200. I love that he does so many HF versions, but with the rise in popularity a print would be a nice pairing and more accessible to collectors. Probably more affordable too. It's not like he hasn't done straight up prints before.

Martin Whatson โข Still Life 2 Print, by docean on Dec 10, 2016 0:59:45 GMT 1, Late to the party here but felt a need to comment:
1) what's with this whole Eine vs. Whatson argument? What a ridiculous comparison. Both are hugely influential in different ways and I've seen work by both of them around the world. They're both awesome guys and really down to earth. Couldn't possibly say a bad thing about either and I love both of their styles
2) this whole fraud cry thing is absurd. The IG post said all would go online, while you may have interpreted that as "all 150" maybe it meant "all that will be for sale currently". GP holds back #1 every release, and I'm sure a couple just for damages, mail issues etc. add in a few for charity sales in the future, and some for friends/family, and the numbers available don't look so bad, imo. Giancarlo and Martin are 2 quality dudes and it's a shame that people are bashing them just because they're sour they missed it.
3) that said, stoked to have this one on my wall for a long time to come ๐

He's been in Miami for Art Basel with extremely limited internet access. Didn't bring a computer and only had intermittent wifi access. Relax and give the guy a break. "Speaks volumes". SMH, he has better shit to do in a given day than get on here to argue with whiners

I've known both for a long time, Ben is respected both on the streets and in galleries, he is a masterful screen printer, and although I find his work boring, its his. Martin on the other hand hasnt influenced much other than Grffiti Prints bank balance.
