BREXIT and Double VAT, by Lroy on Jan 7, 2021 12:48:38 GMT 1, I've spent days going over this bag of crap. Many messages sent to HMRC (started asking last month) and they're obviously too busy to reply now... Some advice from a collector who was a tax accountant... Any sales to the UK will now be 20% more expensive due to customs taxes on the UK side. I can't absorb that cost and I can't see buyers wanting to stump up the extra wedge either tbh. And this doesn't include the aggravation of a metric fuck ton of admin - that if I want computerised for 'simplicity' will cost me £92 a month for one agent company's 'basic low cost software plan'. Now I'm understanding why artists much bigger than me aren't bothering with selling work to the UK any longer. I'll have to follow suit - I can't afford the risky outlay. And I've got a commission here that I've been working on for months that either I've got to take a £350 hit on or ask the punter to stump up the additional. And that's the minimum extra price involved - god knows what the paperwork and admin charges on top are going to take it to. If I send stuff via the family as 'gifts' for them to post on, then it's still got to be declared, insurance values deciding import charges etc... so that's not a likely option. Besides, I don't want them getting shite if HMRC decide it's fraudulent. Then there's the issue of sending work on consignment to UK galleries... ffs Totally agreeing. Spent all last sunday to understand and to ship a poster to Uk, then I renunced it. So buyers and I left it down.
Governements and people destroyed in a Brexit, 30/40 years of modernism, peace and reconciliation.
We did not need that. Almost all at this moment.
The only way is to write " as gift " or gift ... And fingers crossed. But well ! welcome back in the Middle age , with TAXES everywhere ! even when you will cross a road ! '( or a channel )

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Happy Shopper on Jan 7, 2021 12:49:21 GMT 1, I have just bought an item on ebay (private to private), that is going to be shipped to italy from uk. Ebay would like to charge me (20% more or less) like it was an International trade. I really don't understand, but I think at last I have to pay. 🤦♂️ The UK Vat is meant to be removed and you are charged Italian VAT. (Customs fees kick in after a certain price range) But that only works for larger companies and not private sellers. I can buy from Amazon UK and they remove UK Vat and charge me my countries VAT rate. It works out a few quid more but with free Prime shipping it’s fine. There's no VAT on something sold by a private seller. So the 20% must just be Italian import duty/VAT.
If this is the case now, selling UK to EU, it's very worrying for anyone selling something on ebay from the UK!

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Lroy on Jan 7, 2021 12:51:18 GMT 1, A British woman DM’d me asking about shipment. And I found out that also in shipment there is an extra 20%!! In shipment!! Yeps, totally messed fucked. Welcome Brexit !
The only thing that I read is that amenagments will be done between USA and UK.. Less formalities or filling forms !
Some far right Uk people are laughing about that, times will tell ....

I want to pay my duties on my own like with all the others countries in the world, i don't want to pay an ebay partner to charge me in advance, with the risk to pay twice once in my country

So eBay, Shopify, Etsy etc all have to do this now. But you shouldn't have to pay twice.

BREXIT and Double VAT, by ak1 on Jan 7, 2021 14:48:13 GMT 1, Yes you are probably right. Another major downside of ridiculous Brexit. This makes little sense for anyone and will definitely make me think twice about purchasing artwork etc from Europe - and no doubt vice versa for those purchasing from the UK, living in the EU. I'm based in Northern Ireland so no idea if that has any further implications - we seem to be stuck in the middle, so will require customs info (but I assume no VAT/fees) for items above a certain value coming here from mainland UK, whilst I assume also needing the same customs info - with VAT and fees from the EU. Complete mess - hope those who voted to leave are happy with their work now the realities become clear..... Northern Ireland has the best of both worlds at the moment - UK Vat rate and no EU custom charges. No customs charges from GB to NI until the end of March.
Ebay are now listing the customs charges from GB sellers into the EU. Buying anything from GB sellers on here will now be more difficult unless these charges are made clear before purchasing. Likewise, GB buyers should be clear about import charges before buying from an EU country.
As an added complication, if an item has originated outside the EU was received and is now being sold by a GB seller into the EU, tariffs may also apply. Beware!

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Argiebaji on Jan 7, 2021 15:13:10 GMT 1, Just a thought ...? I'm no expert as you can see below..
When eBay sees that sales between the EU and the UK Fall off a cliff since Jan 1st .. that some sort of deal happens to go back to Zero % again ...
I'm guessing this isnt just eBay is it ALL trade between the UK and the EU ... if so it is going to be a Massive hit in trade for both sides.
Can someone please explain how this is Better?

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Invader1887 on Jan 8, 2021 10:35:15 GMT 1, I just had to cancel a deal with a UK forum member. As I live in Germany I would have been charged 19% VAT according to DHL. In Germany we do have a reduced VAT rate of 7% for art, however it can only be applied under certain circumstances (buying art directly from the artist or a direct representative of the artist). It can not be applied for art purchased from resellers. To me adding 19% makes a huge difference....

Only difference to imports from other coutries outside the EU is there are no customs fees.
If UK ebay seller use the global shipping program there are now shown the additonal costs for import.

And every postal service adds about 13 euros for administrative services, so you get double.....
Really sucks.
So purchases from UK will surely go down. Unless UK sellers lower their prices.....

I'm only stating that "no import fees" doesn't mean much, because it's only 5%.
The most you pay are VAT which is around 20% in most EU countries. And additional administrative costs from the courier/post.

BREXIT and Double VAT, by irl1 on Jan 8, 2021 12:45:08 GMT 1, Be careful what sites you buy on now. Some of the U.K sites have .ie but are based in the U.K
Always check where they ship from in their terms and conditions.
Anything €22 and over from the U.K to Ireland is taxed or has duty
(shipping price is included for tax)
Item cost €15 + €7 shipping = taxed
Items €130 + €20 shipping = Duty

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Argiebaji on Jan 8, 2021 14:21:16 GMT 1, So from what you're saying is Brexit supporters voted, on purpose, to make things worse trading between the UK and the EU, on the off chance that 'we' might be able to do other ficticious deals with other un-named countries outside the EU?
Is this right?

It's adjustment
A step back from what we had, yes.
Once we all get our head around what's happening it will be business as usual with a few more forms to fill in
The 52% will explain better as they are the bright ones

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Argiebaji on Jan 8, 2021 16:15:07 GMT 1, Are there any Brexit voters on here that are 'strong enough' to admit that this wasn't the Brexit they voted for or are you still in the 'wait and see' camp. You can PM your confessions to me if you are not ready to go public.
I know we are only 8 days in but I'm really struggling to see how this is better?!

BREXIT and Double VAT, by hellfo on Jan 8, 2021 16:35:42 GMT 1, I think that everyone in this moment is more precautious, waiting to figure out how the deal works (for example, ebay is applying the rules for business users to private sales too). It's too early to judge.

BREXIT and Double VAT, by Lroy on Jan 8, 2021 19:01:23 GMT 1, FFS ... Is it just me or is this a nightmare for both the UK and the EU? Who wins? What's the gain?
It’s for both :
Imagine , you are selling a Banksy to a UK folk , he will have to pay 20% of the final price ( hard to write gift on a tube for a Banksy : customs have scanner as when you take the Eurostar : they stopped me because a little statue in my bag when I went to Dismaland, they already recognize “ art “ and I have had to say that it was my own artwork ( it was before Brexit ). By plane or boat, there will have customs too if you want to bring it to the Uk buyer, or when he will come back in UK. 20 % of a Banksy ?!! Enormous ( that’s why I’m a big hesitating for my poster. Maybe easier to write gift as it’s not a big one )
Now Europe is tucked too as UK is like USA. Sometimes you have no chance ( anyway DHL , etc .. does not give you any chance as you will have to pay VAT ) , as myself, by a shipping made by USPS for an Obey print : no chance, customs felt on the tube ( well only 2 times for 10 shipping ) : they asked me 34 euros fur a or Ig that I have paid 44 $ or 60 .. can’t remember. Vat should not exist ! It’s injustice ! And European will be all tucked too when Banksy will sell soon the GDP items ! Soon to come, another one or this BBay thing, I do not ask.

The 'new' Brexit deal was sold to us in Dec 2020 as a 'Tariff Free' deal by Bojo ..?!
Now as you can probably tell I am no expert but has anyone got a link to exactly what this 'New' arrangement is for trading art between the UK and the EU?
