I love this piece but the gun seems very unlike Banksy... maybe he got someone else to do that bit... or maybe a forum member spooked him

Doesn't it say on the POW site that after he did it, someone told hime the gun was on the wrong side... so for the second one the gun is on the right.

A Rare Banksy Mistake?, by ray on Dec 15, 2007 15:04:03 GMT 1, Yes, the gun is open to make sure the chamber is clear/safe. The funny thing is that it still has a magazine loaded. The gun won't fire in that position.
On a side note about guns I live in Nevada. No permit, license, or waiting period to buy a rifle, handgun or ammo.

"Moreover, in recent years the murder rate in England has been going up under still more severe gun control laws, while the murder rate in the United States has been going down as more and more states have allowed private citizens to carry concealed weapons"

A Rare Banksy Mistake?, by numusic on Dec 15, 2007 16:07:06 GMT 1, I think the gun is supposed to have been partially disassembled/opened...ie, disarmed.... thats why it looks strange. Either that or add it to the list with feet of things banksy cant do well ... That's how you open an M16 assault rifle. No mistake.

Probably because the rate was so high in the US to start with though
Also, in the UK gun crime is between rival gangs and rarely involves random people...
Unlike Virginia Tech, Salt Lake City Mall etc...
LOL - Dunno what this has to do with art though
Back to F5ing for my Banksy!

Actually it was from a report written by your government. You should do 3 minutes of research before you make assumptions, you might be pretty surprised. Did you know a person is six times as likely to be robbed or assaulted in London as in NY?
Have a look here if you want another opinion besides mine. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2002/12/01/ncrime01.xml&sSheet=/news/2002/12/01/ixhome.html

Would love to know who did say that, especially whatever was said BEFORE the moreover... the last and only "gun-spree" I can remember in England was in 1987(?) in Hungerford... don't think there has been one since then or even before? Anyone? What is it, one a week in the US? It isnt the ownership of the gun, per se, that creates the murderer... check out the gun ownership in Canada, it is the knee jerk "they're all out to get me" attitude along with a gun.

And if they removed what is essentially "schoolroom based", ok it should be counted but not along with all else, imho, then we would be nowhere near the top of the "league table"... I'm referring to the robbery and muggings, which I think all English will admit is fairly rife... but thats only "things" (speaking as someone who has been burgled twice at home and had 3 cars broken into or stolen entirely, including one last week)... it really is just kids, we need to sort it out and get it stopped but handing them or anyone else guns really isnt the solution!

That's probably true. But you've got a much higher chance of being Murdered in NY than London.
Roughly comparable populations 7.3 million London, 8 million New York.
Murders last 12 months 428 in New York 168 in London

I'd own a gun if I could. For self defense of course....and for teaching the neighbours some respect when they play their music too loud.....and also handy for pistol whipping the Dominos guy when he's late delivering my pizza....oh, and for scaring my boss if he ever even considers sacking me.....and to protect Fortress Danvnuk from looters if there's a Nuclear War.
million and one reasons why I should have one. It's a complete bugger living in the UK.

Sorry man - i have a sense of humour - I'm sure you do too. Guns are not funny however. Almost as not funny as people carrying a chib - (knife).
Neighbours are just that - neighbours.
Chill out - open a beer.

I can now see, reading back my last post how you could infer that I need to chill out and open a beer - lest I shoot my neighbours or Chib em.
Happens all the time where I live in the ghettos of Essex. Old Mrs Brown down the street at no 62 dissed me yesterday, she put her rubbish out overnight and the foxes tore open the bags, despite my repeated warnings not to, so I had to teach her some respect with a basball bat.
Thats what I have to deal with man - its an urban jungle out there.
I won't go into what happened when Mrs Doris Noakes from the next street over parked in my space last week - was a fcking warzone man, blood on the streets.

I live in the desert and enjoy going out on my ATV and doing some target shooting. I also sleep better at night knowing I have a loaded 45 three feet away from me in case someone broke into my house. I don't hunt but for those that do I'm not judgmental. When I'm out they go into a locked gun cabinet hidden in a closet. I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon but rarely do.

A Rare Banksy Mistake?, by ray on Dec 15, 2007 21:39:01 GMT 1, I live in the desert and enjoy going out on my ATV and doing some target shooting. Hey Ray, off topic, but your avatar.....I was in Vegas last year and visited a series of underground caves...looked like the roof was dripping rocks....pretty nice...is that your avatar?
Great eye! It's a cave I found in the Virgin mountains (south of las vegas) with an opening in the top so the light was perfect.. I caught it with the camera just as the sun was coming up.
