What's your proudest non art achievement?, by andrewd on Sept 28, 2007 19:48:24 GMT 1, Re: all those track listings, Mixmag has an Acid House mix CD this month, mixed by Josh Wink, not sure of the track listing but I've been told there is some seriously good stuff on it. Anyone rememeber Fat Cat records in Seven Dials ( the shop ) Source of most of my Detroit techno. Come to that anyone go to Club UK Wandsworth or Lost ( the Arches, The End and a million and one other locations ) or Voodoo Liverpool? Tribal Gathering etc? Oh and for good measure Sueno Latino has just come on to the radio!

What's your proudest non art achievement?, by a4mnt on Sept 28, 2007 20:32:08 GMT 1, Andrewd - yeah I remember Fat Cat, though never went to club uk, had mates that did though and it sounded heavenly. Those days are lost now though. Voodoo Liverpool had Kris Needs as a resident, that guy could NOT mix...blem him out of the water on several occasions in Norwich (wooh! not exactly centre of the universe i know!) but he got by on being a massive fuckwit, so good on him.
As for Tribal Gathering, went there, i think, 1991 or 94, can't remember, might have been later, funnily enough saw Kris Needs walking around blowing a duck whistle, so must have been 1997......hmmmm.....lots of jacks and jills in those days memories not as pin sharp as it used to be (don't know why : anyway, saw Sven Vath playing, wow! And Kraftwerk. Fucking cold though staying out there all night and no camping. Glasters still rules...8 times and counting ;D

I'll go along with that, I set up my own business nearly 4 years ago, nothing big and I'm certainly not getting rich out of it, just me working from home, it pays the bills & I love it. I'm proud my business has lasted as long or longer than any other business I've worked for.
I'd now hate to work for anyone else.

I went to Tribal Gathering in 1995 onwards think the Kraftwerk one was 96/97? I was there! I went to Norwich with Billy Nasty in 95/6 in his car to write a piece. Had a good night there. Was it the Waterfront or something?

What's your proudest non art achievement?, by manchestermike on Sept 28, 2007 20:55:59 GMT 1, Derrick May of Rhythm is Rhythm fame? +1 fella. He made one of my favourite tunes of all time 'It is what it is' *edited because I can't spell 'rhythm' LOL The one and only Derrick May!! ;D ;D I'm glad someone understands how totally excited I was. I told him I loved his mixing at the end of his set and he literally just bear hugged me and picked me up off my feet. I'm sure he broke a rib!! Got really excited thinking about it and decided to take a pic of the t-shirt (I really do have one!). Its sad, I know, but I'm happy to be on a t-shirt with such legends. ;D ;D I'm on the third line...just below the legends!!! errr, and above Ed Rush & Optical....wtf?
Never mind Derek May - Jeff Mills ;D ;D ;D
Also, as an aside Eskimo by B.L.I.M. is an absolute tune ;D

What's your proudest non art achievement?, by reados on Sept 28, 2007 20:56:27 GMT 1, i had some achievments in the music industry, i Dj'ed at the Ministry of sound once, produced a record that got to single of the week in Mixmag update, the week before it was Roni Size, the week after it was Portis Head and in between was little old me. I warmed up on a live radio one roadshow in St Ives before Boy george, carl Cox and Dave pearce after i had finished i stood to the side of the stage by a very young billie Piper and looked out at 15000 people i had just Dj'ed to that was quite a moment for me.

What's your proudest non art achievement?, by a4mnt on Sept 28, 2007 21:28:32 GMT 1, reados - i was hanging on your every word there ;D i was with you all the way. weirdly enough, played some titchy little place in sydney (really small) and Billie Piper was there just hanging out, being the only Brit no-one else knew who she was. I was a too f**king cool for school techno DJ so couldn't talk to Billie 'poptastic' Piper. Wish I had now.
Andrewd - i love Billy Nasty. You got any of his mixes you could pass on? heard him last year at Fire in Vauxhall (non gay night as far as i was concerned til some dude started chatting me up at the bar.....c-ya). It was the waterfront in Norwich. I had some MESSY nights in there. Played the same bill as Tony De Vit, danny Rampling etc. unfortuantely enough i moved into the music biz in London soon after and took the phone call at work that told us TDV had died. A bad day for the dance scene.
Mike - Sven Vath night sounds great, i'm jealous! ;D

What's your proudest non art achievement?, by michaelscott on Sept 28, 2007 22:02:40 GMT 1, I guess it's time to pat myself on the back, and share a few of mine:
Taking the photograph for R.E.M.'s "Document". It was the bands first Top Ten record, and their first Grammy Nomination, which was for best Album Cover.
With some friends, opening the second Indie Record shop on the west coast (Rough Trade SF, was the first). We had 2 or 3 live performances each month, and artist record signings. Some of which were: The Fall, Mighty Lemondrops, Husker Du, 10.000 Maniacs, Gun Club, Nick Cave, Jesus + Mary Chain, Billy Bragg, Flaming Lips, Concrete Blonde, Loyd Cole.
And then, an indie label. Artists were: Downy Mildew, Henry Rollins/Rollins Band, Poi Dog Pondering, Hetch Hetchy, Kilkenny Cats, Baby Flamehead, and Vic Chesnutt.

But what little i know about this art 'scene' and as they say, ignorance is bliss, is how i felt about music before i became quite involved and that involvement took the sheen off it all.
