Banksy original “Sale Ends” sells £4.2Million+, by lee3 on May 10, 2021 17:45:22 GMT 1, I remember that painting being widely available on secondary many moons ago and was wise of buyer in '09 to bury it after it went unsold in '08 under the hammer. Lost & Forgotten Masterpieces (Non Banksy), by lee3 on Apr 13, 2021 4:52:50 GMT 1, Thanks Scavos & Goose, appreciated. Still here almost daily though more of a browser anymore. That was a great collection of knowledgable minds at Ian's Wallkandy site and I miss that bunch. I think most of those folks gave up here after they were banned en masse back in ~'07. Good to see many mentioning Choe from way back when as I share that sentiment. As a struggling artist flexing his powers at Levine and early at Laz, he was as talented and captivating as anyone. That financial struggle was short lived like few in this world but nice to see him still making inspiring work on insta. His composition of Hendrix was perfect to my eyes too as it looks like Jimi sounds.

New Banksy? Reading Prison , by lee3 on Mar 26, 2021 18:29:58 GMT 1, 3 or 4 weeks removed, I'd be embarrassed to admit how many times I've watched that vid. For my mind and humor, one of the very best works he's ever done.

Jean-Michel Basquiat 🇺🇸 Brooklyn, New York • Graffiti Art , by lee3 on Mar 23, 2021 17:52:31 GMT 1, >>>Measuring at nearly 14 feet wide and 8 feet high,<<<<
Worth noting that Banksy's reworking of that painting shares the same dimensions.

Banksy Print, Canvas, WANTED, by lee3 on Mar 15, 2021 19:29:48 GMT 1, Anyone want to hazard a guess ( or put up a justifiable argument ) as to which will stand the monetary test if time best..The Original Liita or the new Thrower? Both classics.. but hard to decide with the original already selling in auction for the £500k end of last year.. These are changing hands for £300k and upwards which is obv a lot of money but IMO cheap, this is a master piece. If you display it correctly (as per instructions ) they are 7ft wide on the wall. This for sure will be a 7 figure piece one day. Putting my own bias aside and the mind boggling sums of money discussed, I don't believe there is any question the triptych will be far more pursued by collectors than the original red edition for art's sake. The triptych overpowers an entire room all to itself as opposed to a wall. The size differential is immense as is the refinement/execution. Further, this is the first edition featuring multiple artist's frames like many works the artist has featured of late.

Banksy Art FRAMED, by lee3 on Mar 11, 2021 18:55:52 GMT 1, Dexter:
I'm as confused as you with that post and unfortunately unsure of what it was. I do recall a photo of a barcode surrounded by a pair of heavy weaponry's (one unique and one ed 25) from way back when which I'm guessing is what that post refers to. The barcode did come from a member on this board who drove it down to me on the back of a motorcycle which sounds silly to type. As for my dates on this site being funky, I do remember my oldest boy deleting my account on an open laptop. I asked a moderator to restore which was not possible but there was a workaround where i could reclaim that username post deletion. Memory fades and '08 seems a distant past. Banksy was still with Laz or very recently departed if I'm not mistaken.

10 years ago today...., by lee3 on Dec 11, 2020 19:06:20 GMT 1, Interesting photos, thanks. I remember being desperate to travel to London once word was out of the print release, but by the time it was, it was far too late to have been in with a shot. Who is the BORING picture by? Boring and the rest of that foursome (0% interest, jailbreak and that cloud) on the wall are all Banksy. It's a bit strange to look back and consider that was the turning point with mobs and no more nice things with print queues. And somehow a decade on, those are the good old days. Thanks for posting the photos, Charlie.

Phillips Art Auctions • New York, Hong Kong & London, by lee3 on Sept 14, 2020 19:49:08 GMT 1, Good on you and right attitude artforartsake if I read that correctly and you were the previous owner of the phillps gwb that hammered today.
Derivative, i don't get into the market banter much here anymore but I view it differently though admittedly biased. In the case of both Warhol and Picasso before him as the popular artists of their day, each artist produced in excess of 100k graphics. Sum total of paintings for Picasso from memory were around 15k and Warhol over 20k. Banksy is a tiny fraction comparatively for all mediums and given his track record, it would be unexpected for him to to pivot to assembly line prolificacy. I certainly don't have any special insight but I'd be surprised to learn that he's selling more than a few dozen originals each year at this point. And he balances it out with plenty of his best work for us all in the streets. There simply is no adequate comparison for an artist of his stature and popularity coupled with a less is more, perfectionist mindset. That fact makes artist vs. artist price comparisons or projections difficult at best.

Banksy™ Thrower print, Gross Domestic Product™, by lee3 on Aug 30, 2020 0:34:29 GMT 1, As a counter point regarding many of the cautious warnings the past few pages, enjoy it the way you want. You'll easily be able to sell it in the years ahead if needs must for 90% of whatever recent auction prices achieve. No need to be greedy and no need to over worry as life is too short. With an edition of just 300 and the proverbial line around the corner, frame it to the owners satisfaction and enjoy. If you choose to frame to archival with a matte, then the next owner whether 2 or 50 years from now, is going to have to frame with a matte too. I like the 12345 frame job previous pages and appreciate them sharing. If in their shoes, I would look to frame with an oval a la walled off as well.
That signed Girl With Balloon coming next month at sotheby's has a touch of matte burn and I don't think that seller will be harmed one bit.

Banksy Print, Canvas, WANTED, by lee3 on Aug 18, 2020 19:11:11 GMT 1, has anyone done business w/ 'banksymarketplace' on instagram? yesterday they posted a purple girl w/ balloon AP - http://instagr.am/p/CD-7Wy-Mrav ... the purple was new to me. 1. thoughts on 'banksymarketplace', and 2. do you know of other works Banksy has done using purple? thanks in advance for any feedback. They also posted lee3 bedroom photo so don't assume they haven't stolen the image. To be clear, they did not ask permission. On the other hand, once one uploads a pic onto a public site, you should be comfortable that its in the public domain. I have no problem with pilfering of images apart from the appearance that i'm affiliated or doing business/listing anything with these sites which I am not. I have recently learned that if an insta account is private, one can flag a photo if repurposed on that site and get it taken down from public sites which is nice. But, for something uploaded here that would not apply. You kind of have to shake your head in disbelief at what was once a photo sharing some art you love on the walls has become a treasure of sorts as the stature of this artist is growing exponentially as time passes. If it's a bit of madness to the collectors, I can't imagine what it feels like from the artist's vantage point.

Early Banksy Art, by lee3 on Aug 16, 2020 20:14:35 GMT 1, Thanks for posting as I haven't cracked the trio of little black books in a long time. Interesting as this artist has featured dogs in so many compositions over the years and often in a corner for whatever reason.

BANKSY | MEDITERRANEAN SEA VIEW 2017, by lee3 on Jul 15, 2020 19:14:26 GMT 1, I can only imagine how humbling it would feel to assist parents and children alike at their most vulnerable moments during critical hospital stays and improve their chances for recovery.

Banksy Monkey Poison, by lee3 on Jul 3, 2020 0:39:28 GMT 1, >>>They have it marked sold for $2,000,000 including fees<<<
Against a $1.8 bid which is just an ~11% premium. Anyone else bidding on the same lot would have paid substantially higher premium which is why guaranteed lots generally attract fewer bidders. A huge price regardless to my eyes. I liked that Judd too which was also guaranteed and similarly sold on the low estimate to the guarantor.

Banksy Monkey Poison, by lee3 on Jul 2, 2020 18:14:37 GMT 1, There is a guarantee on it, so it will sell well. Like you, I thought that was an aggressive estimate until I learned about the guarantee. What is the guarantee? The houses only need to disclose a guarantee, but not the price of the guarantee. In practice, this typically leads to tepid bidding because few want to outbid the guarantor who has a price advantage with an interest in the work itself and often a kickback (lower buyer premium) from the house. Similarly, guarantor is not about to let the work they've loaned against on go unsold. So, we can safely conclude this will sell for over $2 million US even in the absence of fevered bidding.

Banksy Monkey (Devolved) Parliament sells for £9.9Million, by lee3 on Jun 24, 2020 18:06:25 GMT 1, I've wondered about the depiction of hands, myself. Some of the old ones appear to be in haste like bomb-love, gwb and the old chucker print. But as recently as Barbican, the stenciled female police officer is featuring a 3-digit pat down or is that deliberate instead?

Banksy painting stolen from Bataclan, by lee3 on Jun 11, 2020 22:16:18 GMT 1, Casting the sentimental nature of the work aside for a moment, I can't recall ever seeing a photo of police and detectives posing proudly beside stolen and recovered graffiti. That must give the artist a smile; glad they can bring that one home.

BANKSY Gross Domestic Product™, by lee3 on May 19, 2020 18:38:12 GMT 1, The Basquiat is looking great! Has someone received the Goldfish? I am curious if someone was able to purchase it as when I was at the GDP website last year it was shown as coming soon. This has been probably super late but it is due to me being lockedout of my account. Here is a photo of the Early Learning Counting Set I got from GDP. <a href="https://ibb.co/pKVKKNZ"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/094991Z/ELCS.jpg" alt="ELCS" border="0"></a> That piece makes me very uneasy, all the more so with that outstanding photo. Well done, thanks for posting and enjoy

Banksy Basquiat Print, Gross Domestic Product™, by lee3 on May 1, 2020 19:22:30 GMT 1, I personally think there no way you can compare sale ends to this. This print is leagues better. Dunno like - its alright - its not one of his best. So many other prints I would have ahead of it - including Sale Ends. Whats so good about it? I'm quite the opposite. I have a tougher time with sale ends because of the religious imagery but both images play on similar commercialization themes. All up to the viewer but I see Banksy speaking for himself and the great artists of today and tomorrow depicted as those buying tickets to the carnival looking up to the greats that proceeded them who did the same. Wondering how something so pure from their perspective, all the careful consideration pouring their hearts, minds and soul into their work during their lifetime often becomes bastardized and silly from their vantage point by the wider world around them? All while linking his work to Basquiat while the ferris wheel/art world spins round in circles and taking a veiled slap at the unsanctioned shows increasing in popularity out of his control. For me, better imagery, a deeper statement with wider symbolism than sale ends.

Art Mood?, by lee3 on Mar 20, 2020 18:51:56 GMT 1, I'm happy to report that each of the last 2 nights my kids have been dancing (wildly) setting the dinner table as this blares loudly on the stereo. Hoping to keep it that way for a few more months if necessary.

Banksy North America Collectors, by lee3 on Feb 24, 2020 23:44:07 GMT 1, Anyone know a good restorer in the USA? My friend has a mat burn that needs fixing. Any suggestions or advice would be awesome. Thanks. I've seen the magic that Tyler has performed (flattening, scruffs on prints and wear and tear on originals) on various projects. Highly recommended though I've never had to deal with matte burn but would be my first call in a similar situation:

Banksy • Girl With Red Balloon Print, by lee3 on Feb 12, 2020 22:46:11 GMT 1, All these years later I'm still drawn to the simple elegance and class of that image. Stops me in my tracks on certain days and makes me smile. You can't do dirty, brawny work all the time and adds a nice balance to the oeuvre. Like having julia and helter skelter on the same album not that a few dozen die-hard opinions matter much anymore.
>>>That's why I believe other works/prints will become more valuable than GWRB as the market matures<<<<
That's going to be tough from my vantage point due to shredding. There isn't anything remotely close at this point in time and I, for one, don't see that gap narrowing but I've been wrong more times than i can count. Nice to read various opinions just the same. Edit- perhaps that chucker triptych in the years to come might narrow the gap but i can't envision much else that's already out there. It's been 15+ years now that it's appealed to a wider audience than most.

Early Banksy Art, by lee3 on Nov 28, 2019 19:22:42 GMT 1, Met, from memory I'm fairly certain that photo is in one of the wall and piece editions. Regardless, I find it amusing to see the chairman snorkeling a shallow man made pigeon pond but perhaps just me.
