Ed Ruscha - New Avant Arte print release - SPAM, by Love Is In The Air on Apr 3, 2024 17:30:19 GMT 1, Agree with Londown the way something is shipped - rolled v flat - is not relevant. POW shipped Sale Ends V2 in a giant tube....I would rather have that than one of these shipped flat ; )
I disagree this is like a poster, but my reasoning for this would be the paper and print quality which AA have specified and makes it of print quality IMHO;
UV pigment print with yellow silkscreen details and a matte varnish seal, printed on 410gsm Somerset Tub Sized Radiant White paper.
Again people could argue some posters are amazing quality, I remember forum members loved the Harland Miller York one when it came out. But then that was dubbed "print quality" by some at the time, so if the York had been stamped or numbered perhaps that would be deemed even more like a print or a print/poster hybrid. They were selling for well over the cost of this AA release at their peak.
I also noted people at the start of this thread saying this would be £700+ so for most Ruscha fans aside from the writing bottom right this seems a decent result and most fans who want will be able to afford to buy one. It's not an image I am completely in love with but I admit I am tempted at the price point.

WANTED • What Art are you Searching for?, by Love Is In The Air on Mar 31, 2024 12:11:22 GMT 1, Slightly odd one, but if anyone in London has recently framed a print by Counter Editions and has the XL packaging left (giant cardboard CE folder) I would love to come pick it up and can pay a fee or give a donation to charity of your choice.
I currently have an large Emin - 94 x 74 cm (37 1/2 x 29 1/2 in) - stored between boards but would like an original CE folder to put it in ideally, as it may be sometime before I splash out on the framing. Cheers

New Tracey Emin Prints • Counter Editions, by Love Is In The Air on Mar 26, 2024 14:27:14 GMT 1, Agreed, I don't think it is expensive for a set of four Emins - the issue is they are not great Emins, and I think three are very similar looking to each other.
Would expect them to sell the first tier or two when they go to single prints tomorrow cos for the size of print they are not expensive. And the issue of them looking similar is less of a problem if buying one. But I much prefer her figures lying down or in bed compared to the portraits.

New Tracey Emin Prints • Counter Editions, by Love Is In The Air on Mar 21, 2024 10:53:16 GMT 1, This is perhaps something that comes up a fair bit between printers and artists in terms of subject matter.
Presumably Emin had a lot of say and wanted to do more portraits - or NPG wanted her to do some with them - and so that is what the new edition is made up of. And she can paint and sell whatever she pleases in her position and with her stature.
But from Counter Editions point of view they released a set of 10 portraits around Journey To Death in 2022 and before that a set of 8 for These Feelings Were True in 2020. It means most people who want an Emin portrait have one or can get access to one relatively easily. Aside from that I think there are better portraits from the previous sets than these ones. And I also think people prefer her landscape figure prints to these.
If the pricing above is right on the new ones I would still expect quite a few to shift until they hit around 5/6k and then stall.

HM Prices, by Love Is In The Air on Mar 14, 2024 22:19:52 GMT 1, I think he probably peaked at a point he will never get back to but also think he will come back to some degree in terms of prints if WC and Manifold STOP putting out more editions and allow demand to build up again with some new shows.
Also at it's peak the Murder painting would have done well but I am not sure there are dozens and dozens of collectors who want the word Murder in massive letters on their walls (I could be wrong). It is not as wall friendly as Love Saves The Day or similar. But the result was still very weak and I am not disputing that his print prices have fallen off a cliff...

Harland Miller • Who Cares Wins Print, by Love Is In The Air on Feb 23, 2024 15:04:22 GMT 1, I have Miller stuff on the wall at home and like lots of the work and rarely agree with Fuzzy Duck, but I have to agree it seems CRAZY to me to be putting out a new HM release next week. Even if it was a really sought after penguin title in a new colourway ed20 I would still think it was a bad move.
The Hates Outta Date was a huge edition size compared to the others and lots of people bought to flip and it just meant there was lots of Miller around everywhere, and this was followed up with too many releases and not great ones at that (X, Oui etc). They are basically adding more and more volume to a bloated HM market from where I am standing. He has a market but it seems most people who want a Harland and can afford to pay 4 figures for a piece of paper now have a Harland.
I wasn't around here at the time and totally diff artist but from what I read, the Micallef market got quite bloated and ed sizes were an issue when his prices crashed too right?

Shrigley - I Think About Football, by Love Is In The Air on Jan 18, 2024 14:45:36 GMT 1, Still on first tier price online - not close to being sold out yet. As others have said in the past, it is the animal prints that do well for Shrigley in terms of resale, not one that will be bought by lots of people to flip IMHO

Charlotte Keates 🇬🇧 Painting • Print Release • For Sale, by Love Is In The Air on Jan 13, 2024 17:27:40 GMT 1, If anyone missed out on the smaller Keates 2023 edition - At First you Moved - I would be interested in selling mine at cost as it has not made the wall or even been framed yet.
I have just framed up my larger new print - Your Soft Cocoon - which looks great, and with that and several other Keates on my walls and bills to pay, I thought I should mention on this thread in case anyone missed out.
So it is not just a selling post....below is pic of my framed Your Soft Cocoon...I went with a stained wood and float mount and really pleased with it.

I was going to put more explanation into the sales thread, but was trying to keep it brief and I knew some people would spot it and think of the great man anyway. All the best

Harland Miller “OUI” 2023 Limited Edition, by Love Is In The Air on Oct 4, 2023 13:46:57 GMT 1, I know they are annoying for people not on the lists and I agree this one will struggle at the higher tiers as there is lots of HM around on the secondary atm for 15k.......but Paragon/manifold have consistently made the best quality prints for last few years. Harland's prints from them are far superior compared to the work he releases with others like White Cube.
That's why he bothers with them. Well that and the fact Manifold + Paragon print releases = very big cheques for him.

Forum Auctions • Banksy Marketplace 🇬🇧, by Love Is In The Air on Aug 30, 2023 16:28:15 GMT 1, The signed Flying Copper looks a half decent buy until you see the condition report....
The upper edge of sheet slightly unevenly trimmed: the sheet measures 991 x 696mm (39 x 27 3/8in) A few areas of retouching(?) in the upper portion of the blue background around the copper’s head – please see additional images. A few very slight scuffs in the black – only visible in an extreme raking light. Very slight shadowing along edges of sheet. Please see images

Charlotte Keates 🇬🇧 Painting • Print Release • For Sale, by Love Is In The Air on Aug 29, 2023 15:43:10 GMT 1, She worked on MDF up until fairly recently.....I think when her works were a little less in demand and less expensive. This year and some of last year I think she moved onto plywood primarily as she likes using the grain in some pieces or white washes the wood. So a slight upgrade on the previous MDF and perhaps more fitting given the current fashion for plywood design in housing interiors!

David Hockney 🏴 Painting • Show News • Art For , by Love Is In The Air on Aug 16, 2023 22:25:19 GMT 1, Some new TV shows/films are coming soon about David Hockney, mainly made earlier this year I think when he was in the UK for the launch of his most recent show in Kings Cross.
Have been privileged to get to watch one of the interviews and it's great, although a little sad to see Hockney is speaking a little slower these days and admitting he has probably painted for last time in Yorkshire. Full Details are officially embargoed but I can say there are a new series of special films this August edited and presented by Melvyn Bragg. The collection will air on Sky Arts, Freeview and NOW from 28th August. You are looking at a total of four films I think it is airing over a couple of days and probably available to stream for a good while after that.
The new films will cover the many eras and aspects of Hockney’s work through interviews, archive footage and a trip down memory lane, charting his development as an artist from his early days in Bradford, his time at the RCA in London and his move to Los Angeles in the 1960s where he produced his famous swimming pool series. The legendary artist also sits down with Melvyn Bragg for a definitive interview.
I'll post more specifics when I can if anyone is interested. Thanks

Damien Hirst • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Love Is In The Air on Aug 12, 2023 23:51:54 GMT 1, I think the one of the four together maybe bit darker than reality as no flash and quite far away but they’re not bright and popping in any sense. Some of the colours are bright but also I would say the canvas versions are thick with paint and almost 3D in that sense and there’s just no way the Heni prints can replicate that……

Damien Hirst • Where the Land Meets the Sea, by Love Is In The Air on Aug 12, 2023 23:39:31 GMT 1, Went and saw the Heni editions….thought they couldn’t look as bad as people were saying but if anything they’re worse. So, so shiny. Not sure if it’s the dark colours or change in materials or type of print but these look cheaper and just not as nice as the blossom series which seemed to work in this format IMHO. Until today I still thought about buying one but the quality is poor, if you like this stuff a poster is probably best bet.
